Dental emergencies don’t always fit your schedule. We’re here for you if the unexpected happens. Call us right away for same-day emergency dental care. Your health – not our schedule – is our main concern.
Maybe you bit something hard or fell and cracked a tooth or crown. This may not be an emergency – but it might be. It really depends how severe the injury is. We can help you figure that out when you call our office.
If a tooth is knocked out, you need care immediately.
However, one thing is for sure: if a tooth is knocked out, you need care immediately. Some other situations that call for emergency dental care are:
Hold your tooth in the socket if possible.
Put the tooth in a glass of milk or your own saliva if you can’t keep it in the socket.
Don’t wash it! An intact root gives the dentist a better chance to put your tooth back in.
Put pressure on the tooth socket to keep bleeding to a minimum.
Pick off any dirt or grit you can see.
Call our office immediately!
In short … not usually. Small chips happen. Normally, it’s fine to wait until your next visit to have them checked out. Just be careful not to chip your tooth in the same place again. At your next visit, we may be able to fill the chip in using cosmetic dentistry. If it’s a sizeable chip but without pain, be careful not to chew on it, and schedule a regular appointment.
Severely cracked teeth call for an immediate visit.
However, severely cracked teeth call for an immediate visit – especially if the inside of the tooth is visible or you are in pain. To avoid burning your sore gums, don’t use oral numbing gel. Apply a cold compress and anti-inflammatory medication until your visit. Remember to call our office as soon as possible.
If you think you might have a dental emergency, better safe than sorry. The last thing we want is for you to suffer with an infection or wait to have a serious injury treated. Call us – we’ll help you figure out what to do next.
